Then & Now: RMHC CTX Throughout the Years

Images of house history

This month, Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central Texas celebrates 35 years of keeping families close to the care their children need. Join us throughout the year as we honor our history and look toward a future of hope for the families of Central Texas.

In 1985, with eight bedrooms and a staff of one, Ronald McDonald House Charities of Austin and Central Texas opened its doors on the campus of Brackenridge Hospital to provide lodging and services to families with critically ill and injured children.

Fast forward four years to 1989, the Ronald McDonald House moved to 15th Street and Trinity. With expanded services and 13 bedrooms, RMHC CTX served thousands of families as a comfortable home-away-from-home for 18 impactful years.

In 2007, RMHC CTX undertook the biggest expansion yet, cutting the ribbon on a beautiful LEED Platinum, 30-suite building across from Dell Children’s Medical Center, where we serve families experiencing medical crisis today.

And finally, from 2009 to 2018, we unveiled a series of Ronald McDonald Family Rooms and Happy Wheels Hospitality Carts located inside area hospitals, just steps away from the bedside of hospitalized children.

Join us throughout 2020 as we commemorate the incredible families and generous supporters who have helped families focus on what matters most – their child.
