08 May Surrounded by Comfort & Care
The Silliman Family
On September 13, 2016, while in Austin, TX on a business trip, my life unexpectedly changed. Far from my Atlanta home, I went into labor at 24 weeks and 2 days. My baby boy, Paul, arrived weighing just two pounds.
My husband, Justin, quickly traveled to Austin, and it was then that we began thinking about how to handle the long road ahead, including where we were going to stay. We were in a different city, far from family and friends.
We were fortunate to stay at the Ronald McDonald Family Room at Seton Medical Center Austin and the Ronald McDonald House. Both places became our “home-away-from-home” as Paul got stronger in the hospital, We had a place to sleep, eat and relax, all while staying close to him.
Being at the Ronald McDonald Family Room and then the Ronald McDonald House, took enormous burdens off of us, We were facing so much with Paul’s long road ahead that to have a place to stay, food and drinks provided, and all the other little but important things like on-site laundry facilities with donated supplies, made this hard journey a little easier.
RMHC CTX was our home for several months. And while Paul endured surgeries, setbacks, and triumphs, it was comforting to know we had a place to stay that surrounded us with compassion and care.
