We wanted to be close to Lauren, all the time.

When our daughter’s scoliosis worsened and she knew she had to have surgery, she was frightened – like any child would be. All Lauren wanted more than anything was to make sure we would always be close to her. Of course, when your child is having surgery, there’s no place you’d rather be than right by their side.

We live in Bryan, TX and we scheduled Lauren’s surgery at Dell Children’s Medical Center in Austin — 100 miles from our home. The thought of having surgery is scary for everyone and our family was no exception. And because it was important that we were right by Lauren’s side, we were fortunate to stay at the Ronald McDonald House so we didn’t have to endure a two-hour drive from home each day.

As soon as we arrived at the Ronald McDonald House, Lauren was immediately comforted to know that while she was  in the hospital, we were close by, in fact right across the street. We could be at the hospital in minutes if we had to. This helped her relax and focus on the recovery road ahead of her, especially when she had to stay in the hospital longer than expected.”

“We didn’t realize all the support that Ronald McDonald House Charities gave families while their children are hospitalized. From the laundry facilities to the daily meals, they made this experience a lot easier for our family. When we needed to take breaks, coming back to the House allowed us to reset our minds because it’s all so overwhelming. We are truly grateful that we were always minutes away from Lauren.
