Overwhelmed and Grateful: Meet the Janda Family
Overwhelmed and scared was how Sarah and Jacob Janda felt earlier this year. Ella, the miracle baby they had waited for through six years of infertility treatment and a failed IVF, was born at only 27 weeks and weighed just 2 lbs., 2 ounces. Jacob’s wedding ring could slide up tiny Ella’s leg to her kneecap.
Clearly, Ella needed an extended stay at Seton Medical Center Austin, which meant at least an hour’s daily commute for Sarah and Jacob from their home in Giddings. However, the Jandas’ church had toured Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central Texas in Austin and they contacted us, not certain of how we could help.
The Jandas stayed with RMHC-CTX for two months while Ella gained strength, not only eliminating the travel time but providing a close restful place for Sarah and Jacob to gather strength themselves; a necessary “Us time” for the new parents. Sarah was especially grateful for the help RMHC-CTX provided with Kangaroo care and breast milk storage. Sarah and Jacob also appreciated the sense of community at the House, as they became friends with other families going through similar experiences.
Sarah describes herself as overwhelmed again, but “overwhelmed that people who don’t know us wanted to give back to help us”.
We are thrilled to report that Ella is now home and thriving!
